Friday AI Brief: Check Access, Test Small, Watch the Cost
By FormulatedBy
This week brought three announcements that look very different on the surface: a video model, a sound effects model and a reporting update for an AI developer platform. Read together, they point to one working habit. Before a new capability changes your plans, confirm you can actually use it, test it on one small job, have a person review the result and know what it costs.
What matters
Pika H3 Flex: more control when you iterate on video
Pika says its new H3 Flex model can combine up to 12 reference files, such as images, video and audio, in one generation with synchronized audio, and that its API can return separate audio stems. Access is through the Pika API Club for now, and Pika says the model is coming to its creation product on November 2. Pika announcement (opens in a new tab)
For marketing teams, the interesting part is not one impressive clip. It is the idea of steering repeated versions with approved references, such as product photos or brand footage, instead of starting from a blank prompt each time.
ElevenLabs SFX v3: more complex sound prompts, limited access
ElevenLabs says SFX v3 handles prompts that describe several sounds more reliably and improves music and vocals compared with its previous sound effects model. Its developer documentation says SFX v3 is in limited access, may not be available in every region, and that the earlier model remains the API default. That last detail matters. An announcement that something is available is not the same as your account having it. Check your own account before you promise a client or colleague a new audio workflow.
Claude: more detailed usage and cost reporting
Anthropic’s October 29 release notes describe a new Usage and Cost Analytics API, in beta, that reports token usage and cost for Claude Console and Claude Enterprise organizations. Results can be filtered and grouped by model, workspace, API key and the user or service account behind each request. Claude Platform release notes (opens in a new tab)
This is a developer integration, not a ready-made dashboard, and the older reporting options remain supported. It is still a useful prompt: if your team builds with AI, someone should be able to answer who is using what, and what it costs.
The pattern: capability is not readiness
Launch posts describe what a tool can do. They rarely tell you whether it is available to you, whether it fits your process or what it will cost at your volume. Those questions decide whether a new capability is useful to your business. A short checklist helps:
- Access: is it available in your account, plan and region today?
- Fit: which one recurring job would it help with?
- Review: who checks the output before anyone uses it?
- Cost: how will you see what the test, and any later use, actually costs?
What to try: one small, controlled experiment
This is a suggestion, not something FormulatedBy has run for this issue. Pick one asset your team already produces often, such as a short product clip or a sound cue for a social video. Using approved, non-confidential reference material, create three versions with one tool you already have access to. Ask one reviewer to compare them with your current approach on two or three simple criteria, such as brand fit and editing time. Write down what the test cost in money and in time. Then decide whether to stop, repeat or expand.
Keep the scope tight: one asset, one tool, one reviewer, one decision. A small test that ends in a clear decision is worth more than a broad trial nobody finishes.
What to watch
- Pika says H3 Flex is planned for its creation product on November 2. Check whether that happens and what access looks like then.
- ElevenLabs SFX v3 is in limited access. Watch whether access widens and whether the API default changes.
- Claude usage and cost reporting is in beta. If your team builds on the Claude API, add it to your next spending review.

Vendor announcements reviewed October 30, 2026. The tools mentioned have not been tested by FormulatedBy for this issue, and every capability described is as announced by its vendor.
